I have just watched “Science and the God Delusion: A conversation with Richard Dawkins.” This shows Dawkins at his best (despite problems with his voice) working for the public understanding of science. I highly recommend it.
The presentation is an interview and discussion in the Eden Court Theatre, earlier this month. Professor Dawkins was interviewed on stage by Inverness resident Paula Kirby. Paula, who used to be a Christian and is now an atheist, talked to Richard Dawkins informally about the ideas that have informed his life and work. This was followed by an extended opportunity for the audience to put their own questions and challenges to Dawkins.
I have become somewhat tired of the confrontational debates which are currently popular for discussing science and belief. The calm and open discussion in this presentation – resulting from an enthusiastic and respectful audience as much as Dawkins’ presentation – is a welcome change. Also welcome is a realisation that talks on scientific issues can draw such a large audience.
Videos of Paula Kirby’s interview of Dawkins (about 60 min) are given below as well as links to videos of the question and answer session (also about 60 min).
