2012 Global Atheist Convention – Melbourne

The organisers of the 2012 Global Atheist Convention in Melbourne have announced that tickets will go on sale from September 1st. If you are planning to go I recommend an early purchase as they did sell out quickly last time. And successful as the 2010 Convention was this one is shaping up to be even better.

Convention organisers are announcing confirmed speakers one at a time – The latest is Ayan Hirsi Ali who is certainly going to be a crowd drawer. She is one of my heroines.

Photos of the other speakers so far announced are below. Click on the individual photos to go to their details.

  1. If you go to this, you’ll get a chance to meet Fiona Patten, head of the Australian Sex Party.

  3. Catherine Deveny sounds like an interesting one too

She lives in atheist kibbutz with her partner, three sons and gay husband.

  6. It’s great to see so many anti-Islam speakers on the list.

  7. It is an atheist convention, Mick. All religions will be criticized.

Although Ayan Hirsi Ali has created some controversy with her advice to Muslims to convert to Christianity. She is an excellent thinker but I think she has that one wrong.

One of the reasons I would love to hear her in person.

  8. Why would she advise Muslims to convert to Christianity?
(Punishable by death under Islam law) and also, why should she want to speak about it at an atheist conference?

  9. 18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.
24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

You guys know the truth…it’s inside you, but you suppress it. The truth of God in you is what keeps driving you all to the whole issue of God. You can’t help yourselves because it’s that desire to know Him that is inside you that won’t let you walk away from it…. you simply suppress, or deny the truth without being able to ever disengage from it. Try it…. forget the conference and the speakers and the religion bashing and just live your lives as you believe- that God doesn’t exist. You can’t do it. You’re hooked like a fish by His truth in you to stay around the topic until you die.
Do you spend this much of your lives around the topic of Santa Claus’ existence? Are there any big conferences with speakers regarding why Santa doesn’t exist? Of course not. But God’s existence you can’t leave and it haunts you every day.
I am pleading with you, even ONE of you to heed and seek while there is still time…..There isn’t anything worse than a person who won’t leave a burning house because he believes that everything came from nothing.

And one last thing….. ask everyone of the intellectual speakers there to sit around an empty table on stage and create from that nothing on the table a kangaroo. And a star….and an ocean…. and the wind….. from the nothing on the table.

Hey, news flash, Santa doesn’t go around threatening people who disagree with him.

Yeah you dumbass intellectuals. That proves god done it.
