July ’15 – NZ blogs sitemeter ranking

Big problems with Sitemeter

The problems with SiteMeter are still bad  this month. No data could be obtained for about 50 blogs using SiteMeter. People have also reported strange results. So if you wish to query the information in the table I suggest you check out the data in the SiteMeter pages.

I think some bloggers have removed their Sitemeters. I will go through and delete blogs that don’t’ show any remaining links to Sitemeter.

If you are using SiteMeter, and especially if you find you page isn’t included this month, I suggest you consider transferring to a more reliable counter like StatCounter. Have a look at the NZ Blog Rankings FAQs if you need help with this.

There are now over 300 blogs on the list, although I am weeding out those which are no longer active or have removed public access to sitemeters. (Let me know if I weed out yours by mistake, or get your stats wrong).

Every month I get queries from people wanting their own blog included. I encourage and am happy to respond to queries but have prepared a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) people can check out. Have a look at NZ Blog Rankings FAQ. This is particularly helpful to those wondering how to set up sitemeters. Please note, the system is automatic and relies on blogs having sitemeters which allow public access to the stats.

Here are the rankings of New Zealand blogs with publicly available statistics for July 2015. Ranking is by visit numbers. I have listed the blogs in the table below, together with monthly visits and page view numbers. Meanwhile I am still keen to hear of any other blogs with publicly available sitemeter or visitor stats that I have missed. Contact me if you know of any or wish help adding publicly available stats to your bog.

  1. Soundhill1 on moderation during part of July which delays responses.

Month Rank Blog Visits/month Page Views/month
    June 24 Open Parachute 7360 10027
    July 26 Open Parachute 6676 8726

And Kiwiblog is missing in July but would have dropped OP’s ranking one further.

  4. Bill, your sitemeter link I have is not showing anything and I can’t see a sitemeter widget on your blog.

If you have changed things could you send me an updated link to your sitemeter or statcounter.?

  5. It increasingly looks like Sitemeter or at least major parts of it are dead.

For instance kiwiblog still has in (at least) it’s front page the javascript to send the data to sitemeter from clients (right click & view source, then ctrl+F sitemeter). It isn’t reporting any errors in the javascript console. The javascript appears to have talked ok to the sitemeter server on my system.

However talking to the display system
    http://www.sitemeter.com/?a=stats&s=s20kiwiblog

There is nothing there, and it shows all of the signs of no database. It has been whacked since late June

Reports on twitter say that it is has been dead for more than a month
    https://twitter.com/hashtag/sitemeter

It looks like someone failed to fix it
    http://whatdoino-steve.blogspot.co.nz/2015/06/sitemeter-out-of-control.html

I think that yahoo killed it. File it under dead systems.

  6. Ken I did not have a hypothesis to examine, just sort of open-ended scoping. The ones higher up may carry advertising, which Kiwiblog has got into quite big in July.

  7. Hi, I’m using Stat Counter and sent you that link at the beginning of July. By my reckoning I should rank in the top 10, but I’m not showing at all. Do you still have my email with the link?
    Thanks

  8. Hi Megan

Can’t find your email at the moment. Normally I respond to requests and inform the sender their information is in the spreadsheets or tell them of any problem. Did you get a response from me?

I can’t see a StatCounter link on your blog – perhaps you could check that out or give me the link here.

I can always edit the current list so that your blog shows in the July stats if everything is working OK.

  9. Hi Ken, I’ve resent you my email from June 30 with the link. Let me know if you can access it. Thanks.

  10. Got it. The problem is that you have not allowed public access to your stats.
I thought I had replied but maybe something went wrong.

Fix that and I will add your blog to the spreadsheet and amend the July list.

  11. Hah! looks like it wasn’t dead. Farrar’s site is back up and running from the 29th.

I guess someone fixed some code or replaced some hardware, after a month.

But I think I’ll stick with analytics and statcounter.
