July ’17 – NZ blogs sitemeter ranking

SiteMeter “permanently retired.” Image credit: David Melin.

Well, Sitemeter seems to have finally died.

According the CurrentlyDown.com it has been down since July 5 and the image above taken from Twitter indicates it has been permanently retired. This follows many problems in the past so it appears unlikely to appear again.

My advice to those who have been using Sitemeter is to consider replacing it with Statcounter or a similar counter. Have a look at the NZ Blog Rankings FAQ. for advice on this. This is particularly helpful to those wondering how to set up sitemeters. Please note, the system is automatic and relies on blogs having sitemeters which allow public access to the stats.

So this month’s list is greatly reduced. At last count, there were about 45 NZ blogs on the ranking list using Sitemeter.

Here are the rankings of New Zealand blogs with publicly available statistics for July 2017. Ranking is by visit numbers. I have listed the blogs in the table below, together with monthly visits and page view numbers. Meanwhile, I am still keen to hear of any other blogs with publicly available sitemeter or visitor stats that I have missed. Contact me if you know of any or wish help adding publicly available stats to your bog.

There are about 300 blogs on the list, although I am weeding out those which are no longer active or have removed public access to sitemeters. (Let me know if I weed out yours by mistake or get your stats wrong).

Every month I get queries from people wanting their own blog included. I encourage and am happy to respond to queries but have prepared a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) people can check out. Have a look at NZ Blog Rankings FAQ. This is particularly helpful to those wondering how to set up sitemeters. Please note, the system is automatic and relies on blogs having sitemeters which allow public access to the stats.

May ’11 – NZ blogs sitemeter ranking

Generally compilation of this list is simple. It’s set up to run automatically by extracting data from  visit counter summaries (Sitemeter, Statcounter, etc.). However, every so often somebody decides to change some of the code and I have to make changes. Statcounter did this during May. Consequently the 7 day average ranking is not working. I haven’t yet worked out how to correct it.

Never, mind. (Although I find the 7-day average vists ranking useful). The monthly statistics are still easily accessible.

Here are the rankings of New Zealand blogs with publicly available statistics for May 2011. These rely on blogs having sitemeters which allow public access to the stats. There are now over 240 blogs on the list.

The blogs are listed in the table below, together with monthly visits and page view numbers for May, 2011.

April ’11 – NZ blogs sitemeter ranking

Cartoon: Gaping Void

I get a steady stream of bloggers requesting inclusion in this ranking list. And I am always happy to oblige.

However, I am nothing if not lazy. The list is basically set up to run automatically. My only effort (besides providing a monthly summary) is to add the blog details to the database.

The key detail I need is a link for the sitemeter used. This enables automatic access to the relevant statistics. Many bloggers do not have a sitemeter installed, or do not allow public access.

So, if you want your blog included in the list (and I certainly do) please make sure you have a suitable sitemeter installed (Sitemeter, Satcounter and Statcounter for WordPress work well). If you are unsure how to do this contact me – I will give what help I can.

The 7 day rankings are still available any time at NZ blogs average daily visits. It’s worth following a few blogs on the daily visit list. Ranking is a lot more volatile and it’s interesting to watch blogs move up and down and speculate on the reasons.

The blogs are listed in the table below, together with monthly visits and page view numbers for March, 2011.

Comparing blog visit statistics

Every month I post a ranking of New Zealand blog sites which make their visit statistics available. Being basically lazy I do this automatically using a Google spreadsheet to import data from the appropriate site meter. The 7 day average visits are automatically updated in the NZ Blog Ranking web page. And the monthly ranking here.

Incidentally, I notice that these ranking tables are often being used by people wishing to browse New Zealand blogs. So it is worth bloggers including their blogs in the rankings just from the point of view of linking and traffic. Of course, it also gives bloggers some idea of how their visit numbers compare with other similar blogs.

There a range of methods for obtaining blog visit stats and they don’t necessarily measure the same thing. There is often confusion between visits by individuals and the number of page views in total. (An individual may visit several page during a single visit.)

July ’10 – NZ blogs sitemeter ranking

I currently have just over 200 New Zealand blogs with publicly available statistics.  These rely on blogs having sitemeters like:

Statcounter:
Sitemeter:
ShinyStat:
Extreme Tracking:
Flag Counter:

So, here is the monthly ranking of NZ blogs for July 2010. The 7 day rankings are still available any time at NZ blogs average daily visits.

This monthly ranking has 12 fewer blogs than the 7 day ranking. This is because

monthly figures are not available for sites using the Bravenet counter.

The blogs are listed in the table below, together with monthly visits and page view numbers for July, 2010.

NZ blogs sitemeter ranking – January ‘10

There are about 145 NZ blogs with publicly accessible sitemeter stats on this list. Mind you I have found over 800  NZ blogs  and most of them just don’t make their statistics publicly accessible..

The blogs are listed in the table below, together with daily visits and page view numbers averaged over the previous 7 days. The data was that given by the NZ blog ranking tool on Monday January 18th.

This can be seen at NZ blogs average daily visits

Have a look at that tool. Its a way of comparing your own blog’s performance from day to day –  a roller coaster ride which can be quite exciting!

Just be aware that it relies on spreadsheets at Google Docs and data is not always available. If the data is missing or incomplete, wait a while and reload the page. It will eventually show up.

Meanwhile I am still keen to hear of any other blogs with publicly available sitemeter stats that I have missed. Contact me if you know of any. Continue reading
