NZ blogs sitemeter ranking – September ’09

Currently I have found 113 NZ blogs with publicly accessible sitemeter stats. This is about 20% of the total on my database.

The blogs are listed in the table below, together with daily visits and page view numbers averaged over the previous 7 days. The data was that given by by the NZ blog ranking tool on September 26th.

This can be seen at NZ blogs average daily visits

Have a look at that tool. Its a way of comparing your own blog’s performance from day to day –  a roller coaster ride which can be quite exciting!

Just be aware that it relies on spreadsheets ad Googles Docs and data is not always available. If the data is missing or incomplete, wait a while and reload the page. it will eventually show up.

Meanwhile I am still keen to hear of any other blogs with publicly available sitemeter stats that I have missed. Contact me if you know of any.

  1. Woo hoo! My blog gets more popular after I take a two month break posting on it!? How does that work? Laughing my tits off.

  2. Yes, I had noticed Paul (but I thought Madeleine would be the first to respond with a Woo Hoo!).

Perhaps this just indicates how effective older posts can be. I find that this is so particularly for overseas hits.

It’s good to know that the old work just doesn’t get lost.

  3. Are the counts of visits/page views corrected so the multiple hits from the same address aren’t counted? Just curious what counts actually represent.

  4. Usually visits refer to unique visitors. That is if they arrive several times in a day it counts as 1 visit. These could be “regulars” visiting every day and counting as 1 every day.

Page views would include the multiple visits.

Some sitemeters, but not all, actually record first time visitors as a separate category..

  6. Hi Ken. Nice blogs of yours and thanks for your efforts to maintain a monthly roundup of NZ blog rankings. Please add Fisheye Perspective on your monthly radar. I will be more than glad to be listed here. Just curious how you update this list, manually or you are using any automated approach. A simple PERL or Python script can automate the whole list on a real time basis.

  7. Hi Abhishek.

Have added you to the list – it now has 120 NZ blogs on it.

Unfortunately I really don’t have scripting skills (one of the things on my list to do). I am just using google spreadsheets to import from the stat counters and sitemeter pages. So it updates automatically as the source data changes. (Although sometimes the google spreadsheet data isn’t available and one must wait and try again).

So all I have to do is add the sitemeter, etc., pages as I find publicly available stats.

    By the way:
I think the Sciblogs people have also just noticed your blog. You should consider syndication there – its a great resource (or will be as its less than a week old and already has 26 blogs).

  8. Thanks for adding the Fisheye. If you like I can write one script for you but that will need the sitemeter URLs for the listed websites.

PS: I have already requested Peter at Sciblogs to add syndication for Fisheye, hopefully soon it will be there.

  9. Thanks for the script offer. However, at the moment it seems to work OK. I use and importHTML() function and have to specify a specific table number. The table numbers are different for each of sitemeter, statcounter, Shiny Stats, etc. Then, of course, I have to take the data from a specific cell of the table.

I imagine a script would have to duplicate all that – although it might be simpler for the initiated.

The other problem – ideally I would like to put a table into my own blog that updated automatically. Unfortunately wordpress.com doesn’t allow for scripts. (Nor does the SciBlogs platform). Otherwise I would just embed the google spreadsheet output. I can’t see any way of getting around that at the moment.

So, next best thing – I just link to the publicly available google spreadsheet.

  10. Aha, Now I can understand the problem associated with the scripting way. Thanks anyway for your efforts.
