September ’10 – NZ blogs sitemeter ranking

I currently have about 230 New Zealand blogs with publicly available statistics. These rely on blogs having sitemeters which allow public access to the stats.

So, here is the monthly ranking of NZ blogs for September 2010. The 7 day rankings are still available any time at NZ blogs average daily visits. It’s worth following a few blogs on the daily visit list. Ranking is a lot more volatile and it’s interesting to watch blogs move up and down and speculate on the reasons.

In previous months I did not include stats for blogs using Bravenet counters.  This is because monthly figures are not available for sites using the Bravenet counter. However, this time I have included these blogs and estimated a monthly figure from the 7 day average. Apples and pears, I know, but I don’t think it changes the ranking significantly.

The blogs are listed in the table below, together with monthly visits and page view numbers for September, 2010.

While monthly rankings don’t change as frequently as the 7 day rankings the longer time may be more useful because small fluctuations average out.

Meanwhile I am still keen to hear of any other blogs with publicly available sitemeter or visitor stats that I have missed. Contact me if you know of any.

  1. Any idea which is the best site metre tool to use?

I had a Site Meter account, but took it off my site because it was slowing performance by about 15%.

  2. Yes, I noticed yours had gone, Bill.

I have tracked only a few using my own blog. Seemed that statcounter and sitemeter gave very similar results (If anything statcounter gave slightly higher visits.)

Go Stats and Shiny stats were lower.

However, as a WordPress.com site I am not able to use some of the others.

It would be useful for someone to compare the different sitemeters for their effect on loading times. Probably more important than absolute numbers.

    Ken.

  4. Hi Ken

Yes, that’s the second time it’s come and gone.

I’m not so concerned about which metre gives the highest score as which has the lowest performance overhead.

My site is stripped down to the bare minimum, but was sometimes loading very slowly. I dug around and found dumping sitemeter made a noticeable difference.

That’s a pity, because sitemeter’s stats page is nicely organised.

I’ve just installed statcounter for a trial run. It could be the answer, it’s certainly lightweight but there are a couple of performance worries.

  5. Just so folks know – my monthly total (Say Hello to my Little Friend) were generated during the second half of September only, as I only added a public statcounter on the 14th or 15th.

  6. That is always a problem, Glenn, when bloggers change their counters. Every month I seem to pick up a few that have either just added or removed their counter, or changed their access.

However the 7 day average generally won’t suffer from big effects in this respect. Your blog is currently no 37 in that ranking – but of course the ranking is more volatile.

You’re right about Statcounter. Signed up last week and the SC counts are about 40% of the counts I’m getting from WordPress and Google Analytics.

  10. Having seen this site and that you are tracking my weblog http://macilree.blogspot.com/ , at the beginning of October I added Sitemeter and StatCounter. Both seem to be working fine.
